Overview: The article focuses on the code that was issued in terms of the Employment Equity Act of 1998 and although not legally binding, it is intended to be used as a guide to assist employers and employees in understanding their rights and obligations when dealing with disability in the workplace. The code urges employers to acquire disability benefit schemes that provide vocational rehabilitation, training and temporary income replacement benefits for employees who, because of illness or injury, cannot work for an extended period.
