Overview: The first step in making your IT resume readable by the non-IT world is to make sure that your technical keywords are first and foremost. Often a recruiter is working from a job description with a list of required technical skills. A well-written IT resume should include its own list of technical skills somewhere on the first page. Less experienced job seekers will usually have shorter lists than their senior level counterparts. Once you have more than ten areas of technical expertise you should break them down into categories (i.e. Programming Languages, Operating Systems, Databases, etc.). This one step will allow the hiring professional to tell if you are a match to their opening within a few seconds of looking at your resume.
