Overview: Matrix management refers to an innovative form of a business organization which was originally conceived in the minds of academic theoreticians. After some initial refinement and testing, matrix management was actually applied within a business firm. The theory proved to be useful to the practitioner and within a brief three years, matrix management became a major component in the broad trend toward more complex forms of business organizations. This paper acquaints agribusiness managers with the modern organizational concept called matrix management. The paper describes the particular characteristics of matrix management which have contributed to its usefulness and adaptability, and lists the limitations associated with matrix management in an attempt to reduce the probability of its being misused.
