Overview: Quite naturally, most companies allocate the bulk of their training dollars to industry-specific training - sales training for sales organizations or Information Technology (IT) training for companies which rely heavily upon computer and/or internet technology. However, current research suggests that some of the largest and most damaging gaps in skill are those which exist in company leaders' abilities to lead and manage. An online ASTD poll conducted from December 2005 through January 2006 found that 96 percent of their 396 respondents identified skills gaps in their organizations and identified managerial/ supervisory skills, communication/ interpersonal skills, and leadership/executive-level skills as the three most important areas of skills deficit.
