Overview: Wishful thinking is assuming that things will just work out when you have no good reason to think that they will. Wishful thinkers may ignore evidence that things are not going according to plan (if they even have a plan) and are, in fact, getting worse. It goes beyond reasonable optimism and squarely into the realm of denial. This paper explains three main reasons people fall into wishful thinking.
