Overview: Establishing a Content Management Strategy before introducing a Content Management System (CMSystem) is essential to ensure that the CMSystem leads to an improvement in quality of the University's web presence and in satisfaction levels of web publishing staff. Information architecture and editorial review are essential ingredients of a Content Management Strategy: they ensure that large web sites meet the expectations of the end users and project a professional image. An analysis of how web publishing in the Library is currently handled gives an insight into the practical problems which a Content Management Strategy will have to address. A possible workflow model for the Library combines devolved and centralised aspects. It can be a starting point for discussions about workflow models in different departments/services.
