Overview: When the author first came up with the idea of intuitive statistics, he had no idea others had already written on the subject. However, as he was to discover, the term intuitive statistics has a variety of meanings. Gerd Gigerenzer and David J. Murray report the term was probably first used by the 19th-century German psychologist Ergon Brunwick when he described the intuitive perceptual and cognitive abilities of the mind. This concept is different from the one used by statisticians, who have, over the years, used intuitive statistics to teach the subject more effectively. The author use of the term is different from both statisticians' and psychologists'.
