Overview: Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is a leading driver of globalization. Undertaken by TransNational Corporations (TNCs), FDI is creating dense and complex global networks of production and consumption. This paper examines statistical and case studies of the relationship between FDI and economic growth in developing countries. It focuses on knowledge spillovers, that is, both technology and tacit knowledge. Knowledge spillovers are important not only for economic growth but also for reducing the pollution and resource intensity of industry.
