Overview: Projects fail every day, for any number of reasons, but one of the largest reasons is the lack of effective leadership by the sponsor - and it has been for many years. This is something that the author struggle to understand, because the solution is really not difficult. Consider what he is advocating in this article - much as he might like to think that he is changing the world, it really isn't rocket science. Sponsors simply need to provide effective leadership to projects by agreeing to their responsibilities and living up to them, demonstrating visible leadership with the project teams and acting as the champion of their projects in the wider context of the organization.
