Overview: Having managed Duval County, FL's cafeteria services for eight years, June felt that the time had come to strike out on her own. As there is no shortage of ideas and approaches to restaurants, June wanted to make sure she could get her business started on the right track. Recalling how SCORE had helped her start a small cleaning business several years ago, June knew exactly where to go for help. With the help of volunteer counselor, June began building a business plan with an eye toward creating a cafe that served breakfast and lunch. As the plan was being developed, June learned of an existing cafe that was for sale. In early 2003, she and her business partner purchased what would become The NIA Cafe.
