Overview: Akian had no experience in the education market. And despite what was then a booming market for technology services, any missteps could cost him more than just his dream of entrepreneurship. SCORE's counselor, Joe DeSalvo wanted him to focus on hisarketing agenda, which was different from other approaches to business plans. He wanted to make sure Akian knew as much as possible about his target market, and how he would reach it. DeSalvo's assignment made perfect sense to Akian who, as a comptroller with a large venture capital firm, fully understood the time and effort required to maintain critical computer systems. He believed a system infrastructure built around innovative "Thin client technology" offered an affordable, easy-to-manage solution for integrating disparate applications and PCs.
