Overview: You might have a Web site based on SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft that includes both private lists, which you want only your team members to see, and public lists such as surveys, to which you want everyone who visits your site to contribute. To contribute to lists, visitors must have the Author Lists right. However, this right grants users permission to add content to all SharePoint Team Services lists that are not read-only; there is no way to distinguish some lists as "private" and others as "public" solely by setting user rights.
