Overview: In last few years, China's economy has started to develop information and communications industries that are broadly defined as components of the New Economy. Acknowledging that the IT revolution presents China a good opportunity to propel itself into the New Economy, the Chinese government has implemented a series of proactive policies to facilitate the development of the Internet and e-commerce. This paper first examines the issues of information infrastructure, commercial service and trust in the Chinese context and then discusses the policies and regulations need to be implemented in order to create a more favorable local environment for the development of e-commerce in China.
