Overview: The telecommunications industry is in a state of continuing flux and increasing competition. The industry is moving from a traditional, vertically integrated, closed, proprietary supply chain to an open standards based ecosystem. Instead of the traditional discrete and dedicated, specialized network technologies, many service providers are simplifying and transforming their networks into a virtualized IP network that can support the full spectrum of voice, data and video services across various fixed and wireless transports. Telecom service providers planning to generate new revenues from these services will need to be able to rapidly deploy compelling services easily and efficiently, while being able to bill for these new services.
