Overview: Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) recognises the importance of sustainable development - which maintains the capacity of society, the economy and the environment to satisfy and sustain the needs and living standards of both current and future generations. Economic development and environmental protection are mutually reinforcing goals of sustainable development. If co-regulation is pursued, which ACCI does not support, then a thorough and independent cost benefit analysis should be conducted, including the full cost of the proposed regulation to business. The cost benefit analysis must be in the form of a Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS), which should assess the total cost of business compliance, fees and paperwork.
