Overview: This paper discusses the key role entrepreneurs play in the long-run performance of the United States economy. Someone has to recognize the potential of new ideas, design applications, develop new products, and successfully bring these products to market. This is the critical role played by the entrepreneur, and the recognition of this importance has spurred increased research on the contribution of entrepreneurs to the long-run performance of the U.S. economy. In this paper, the author shares his thoughts on how entrepreneurship boosts economic performance and what elements are needed to support and maintain an entrepreneurial economy.
