Overview: For all types of organisation, in commerce and in the public sector, factors such as the increased speed of operations, regulatory compliance, and the creation of highly distributed business models is requiring a more effective use of information for business decision making. One consequence of this change is that access to information can no longer be the sole preserve of senior executives or specialist business analysts. Instead, all employees should have access to information that is relevant to their role and operational activities: this change is mirrored in the evolution from individual Business Intelligence (BI) tools that handle a specific task, to the wider deployment of these capabilities to a mass audience - a model that we describe as pervasive BI.
