Overview: People with higher cognitive ability (or 'IQ') differ from those with lower cognitive ability in a variety of important and unimportant ways. On average, they live longer, earn more, have larger working memories, faster reaction times and are more susceptible to visual illusions. Despite the diversity of phenomena related to IQ, few have attempted to understand - or even describe - its influences on judgment and decision making. This paper introduces a three-item 'Cognitive Reflection Test' (CRT) as a simple measure of one type of cognitive ability.
