Overview: Pay for Performance (P4P) is a concept that has recently received significant attention from payers, legislators, employers, and providers. Because Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has indicated an interest in applying P4P concepts across the continuum of care, it has significant implications for the home care industry. This creates an opportunity for forward-thinking home care agencies to help define P4P practices and standards their market and potentially enable them to take advantage of the changing landscape and secure an early and strong hold on the market. The key is to understand P4P concepts, agency strengths and weaknesses, and apply thoughtful leadership and planning to the opportunity.
