Overview: Corporate governance reform continues to focus on executive compensation. The most recent addition to this discussion comes from The Conference Board, which has published Executive Compensation Consulting, a Research Working Group on Best Practices. The Conference Board convened executive compensation consultants (including Mercer) and human resource executives to identify best practices in retaining and using executive compensation consultants. The paper defines the respective roles of the compensation committee, management, and consultants; includes a recommended process and checklist for hiring consultants; and provides standards for using consultants.
