Overview: The measurement of evidence based care is very dependent on clinical data detailed in the medical record. Historically, abstracting data from a medical record has been resource intensive. As the national move towards providing information for consumers to make decisions grows, the need for data is only likely to increase over time. To meet this demand for information, hospitals should examine their data collection processes and streamline those to make them as efficient as possible. This paper describes the preferred methods of data collection that require the least amount of time and expense.
