Overview: The use of the intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) has been described in guiding the closure of atrial septal defects and also in assisting electrophysiological procedures (e.g. pulmonary vein ablation in atrial arrhythmias). Experience with the use of ICE in guiding ventricular procedures is less extensive. Siemens' has used ICE to guide the treatment of patients admitted for RadioFrequency Catheter Ablation (RFCA) of Ventricular Tachycardias (VT). Besides the ability to guide catheters and perform the procedure with direct visualization of intracardiac structures from the right side of the heart, an additional advantage is the possibility of early monitoring of complications such as thrombus formation or myocardial perforation.
