Overview: SQL Server 2000 has become a popular database solution in the last several years. SQL Server is highly scalable, powerful and relatively bug free, and has earned its place as a high end solution. Many organizations run mission-critical applications on SQL Server 2000, which has brought the topic of disaster recovery to light. The current "Common" database disaster recovery scenario works in server pairs. A primary (production) server is "mimicked" to a secondary (stand by) server. The stand by server has one purpose: be ready to be sprung into action should the primary server fail. SQL Server 2000 has two built in mechanisms for disaster recovery: Replication and Log Shipping.
