Overview: The older worker is here to stay, according to a national AARP survey of 1,500 employees age 45 to 74. Nearly 70 percent of those surveyed plan to work in their retirement years in some capacity, with 35 percent saying they would stay in their current job and 28 percent opting for part-time employment. Given demographic predictions, managers may want to take time now to begin planning for an older workforce. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the percentage of Americans workers 55 or older will increase from 13 percent today to 20 percent by 2015.
