Overview: On the basis of a survey of more than 500 major U.S. employers, Hewitt Associates reported that the number of companies using wellness and disease management programs increased from 73 percent in 2004 to 83 percent in 2005. Thirty percent of employers offer incentives to encourage employee participation in wellness programs, up from 21 percent in 2004, according to the survey results. In addition, the Society for Human Resource Management's 2005 Benefits Survey found that 62 percent of respondents offer a wellness program, resources and information, up from 56 percent in 2004.
