Overview: Although it sounds like a management phrase du jour, IT governance is actually a concept that is likely to gain more traction in the business world in the coming years, and for a good reason. The strategy creates a better way to manage information technology so that it aligns with larger business goals and controls technology spending. Companies that use technology only to send email and keep electronic data stored likely won't need the power of governance. But for companies that do fold IT strategy into business aims or have several IT projects to manage, governance should be considered.
