Overview: The emergence of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) has not only brought smaller outsourcing contract values, but also a trend of "Bundling" ITO and BPO in outsourcing relationships. Bundling occurs when a client chooses to include the underlying Information Technology (IT) systems and operations within the scope of a transaction that is principally aimed at contracting for a business function, such as human resources or finance and accounting operations. TPI has observed this trend in its historical metrics, which have often reflected overall industry trends. This position paper explores the characteristics of the trend, reasons for its emergence, benefits and drawbacks of bundling, and potential developments in bundling.
