Overview: The proliferation of performance measures and performance measurement systems is well documented and this has raised the question of just how much does it cost companies to measure and analyse such vast quantities of data. Although research into performance measurement has started from the premise that measurement is worthwhile, there is undoubtedly a cost associated with the design and implementation of any performance measurement system, and in some cases this cost can be significant.
