Overview: The study presented in this paper explores certain management practices in which an organization treats its human resources as the most important asset. Despite evidence of a direct relationship between a company's performance (e.g., turnover) and its commitment to these management practices, organizations are moving away from these principles due to certain barriers. The study also investigates American CEOs' perceptions of potential barriers (e.g., short-term pressures) suggested by Pfeffer and Veiga. Results indicate that the surveyed CEOs agree that the barriers cited inhibit implementation of suggested management practices. CEOs also share the same ranking order developed by Pfeffer and Veiga.
