Overview: This paper examines how gender issues are addressed in current analyses of macro-poverty links. Among CGE models, if gender-based issues are modeled at all, they tend to be secondary in importance and often added as a special device to a standard model. However, new studies are emerging that specify more fully engendered CGE models which disaggregate labor by gender, add non-market work and caring work as actual sectors in addition to the usual market-activity sectors, and allow for linkages across these agents and sectors. A far more common approach to the quantitative analysis of macroeconomic policies and gender links is based on partial equilibrium analysis.
