Overview: The Charity Commission is responsible for the regulation of charities in England and Wales. There are over 180,000 charities on the Commission's Central Register of Charities. In 2000-01, their gross annual income exceeded £25 billion and they had assets of approximately £70 billion. The Commission's aim is to give the public confidence in the integrity of charity.
