Overview: The promotion of employment is one of the four strategic objectives of the International Labour Organization (ILO). While the concept of decent work offers a way of combining employment, labour standards, social protection and social dialogue in development strategies, employment is fundamental in the fight against poverty and social exclusion. The principal challenge not only for the ILO but also for the European Union (EU) is to make employment central to all economic and social policies.
