Overview: North Dakota (ND) has a strong commitment to the development of employment opportunities for people with disabilities. More than 128,000 of North Dakota's 630,000 residents have a disability, about 68,000 are of working-age, and roughly half (32,000) of the members of this sub-group are employed (ND State Rehabilitation Council, 2000). These numbers compare favorably to the national average (34 percent) and reflect positively on job development and job support activities in the state. Businesses in the 21st century require a diverse workforce to ensure success. The market is global and recognizes diversity as an asset.
