Overview: Workforce planning has likely become the greatest challenge faced by the organizations today. One continues to hear about the imbalances between work that needs to be performed and the availability of skilled workers. The downsizing that occurred over the last several years, particularly in the public sector, was done with little strategic thinking, planning or foresight for the future. Workforce planning, as a tool, has become one of the best strategies for improving the organizations as it forces to think strategically about how to align people to the business. Today, one knows that Human Resource (HR) professionals must play more strategic roles in ensuring that human capital issues remain a priority.
