Overview: The UN peacekeeping is a type of conflict resolution since its activities are based on third-party intervention. It is helpful to recall a distinction made between the traditional understanding of "Restoring peace" among nation-states and "Building peace" in war-torn societies. The former is defined as the cessation of acts of war undertaken by national armed forces and the latter as the process of establishing the institutions of democratic governance and fostering a culture of respect for human rights and freedoms.
