Overview: This paper introduces a conceptual framework and initial results for the emerging area of disruption risk management in supply chains. The framework proposed builds on the risk management literature and models of supply chain coordination. The key issue addressed is the effect of alternative supply chain design options on the efficiency and robustness of the supply chain to various sources of disruption. Such disruption risks are distinguished from normal supply-demand coordination risks.
