Overview: The Workers Compensation Commission of NSW commenced operation on 1 January 2002 as the dispute resolution forum for disputes in relation to claims lodged on or after that date. It runs a huge ADR regime but forms only one key part of a multi-pronged attack on the serious "social cost" that is workers compensation in NSW. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the workings of the new Workers Compensation Commission in NSW and to provide some insight into the environment in which the Commission was established and now operates.
