Overview: The Australian Defence Science and Technology Organisation's Information Technology Division (ITD) has a Research and Development (R&D) program that aims to deliver integrated modelling and simulation capabilities which aid Joint operational planning and command decision. Synthetic Environments for C3I Experimentation (SENCE) is a scientific thrust that concerns the development and application of command and control (C2) led simulations and synthetic environments. The term C2-led signifies an emphasis on modelling of, and support to, military command and control. A key area of research for the SENCE thrust is focused on the utility of simulation and synthetic environment capabilities to the planning of air operations and training in air asset and battlespace management.
