Overview: Both Seven S and PEST enable one to think clearly about aspects that are relevant to the service but they are even more useful when one draws on them to conduct a perceptive and rigorous SWOT analysis. SWOT is an acronym for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats, in which strengths and weaknesses refer to your use of resources within your organisation, opportunities and threats to the external environment. SWOT analysis was first described in the management literature by Igor Ansoff in the 1940s.
