Overview: Four paradigmatic views that explain shortcomings of Knowledge Management Systems (KMS) in literature are identified: Organizational barriers, codification vs. personalization, importance of a clear working definition of knowledge and impossibility to manage knowledge or certain forms of it. Their validity is analyzed by comparing them to a case study in which shortcomings of two KMS in an international company were analyzed.
