Overview: Government direction, societal expectations and professional norms (Clausewitz' trinity) dictate the institutional expectations for a democratic nation's armed force. The national military institution, the Canadian Forces (CF), to be effective in its obligations and functions, needs to meet institutional requirements in both its organizational facets and its professional, profession-of-arms, facets. To ensure institutional effectiveness, leaders are committed to embrace particular roles and diverse responsibilities, for which requisite leader capacities exist. Human Resources processes need to incorporate these requisite leader capacities into selection, assessment, professional development, and other HR procedures.
