Overview: The Regional Transit Action Plan includes a task to analyze regional fare policies. It is anticipated that smart cards, which are included in the Metropolitan Atlanta Regional Transit Authority's (MARTA) current procurement of a new fare collection system, will be the long term basis for an integrated regional structure. This paper describes the fare policy goals and strategies that Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) could consider. It also reviews the fare structures and pricing levels.
