Overview: This paper examines the relative influence of employee values, attitudes, and supervisory behaviors on employee motivation. Data were collected through self-administered Questionnaire from the employees working in two medium-sized hotels in New York City (N=140). A total of usable responses were obtained from an overall response rate of 78.2%. The results indicate that employee values and attitudes are instrumental in producing a strong employee intrinsic motivation while leader's behavior enhances employee extrinsic motivation. Generally speaking, employee motivation (extrinsic/intrinsic) can be enhanced by redesigning work along the key values and attitudes of the employees, and by emphasizing leadership behavior. A number of implications based on findings are discussed.
