Overview: Firms offering pension plans in more than one country may discover an excellent opportunity to reduce costs while creating synergies through adoption of a global approach to selecting investment managers. Many multinationals approach each of their pension plans in isolation, hiring investment managers for one pension plan without considering coordinating the selection with the firm's other plans. This article suggests that instead of taking this narrow approach, multinational plan sponsors should consider hiring the same person to manage similar mandates for all of the firm's pension plans.
