Overview: Any organization committing to the Balanced Scorecard will eventually have to face the decision of whether or not to publish results externally. Even Scorecard veterans who have taken advantage of the tool's many benefits as a measurement, strategic management, and communication system tend to struggle with the decision. This article examines some of the concerns raised when organizations consider sharing their Scorecard results with external audiences. However, in light of the glare being cast upon externally reported information to the public and capital markets many organizations feel the benefits of balanced reporting far outweigh the potential risks.
