Overview: Citizens' or residents' panels have arguably become a key tool to focus consultation efforts both for local authorities and their partners in, for example, health and police services. For many types of council they serve as a key method of finding out directly what citizens think of their policies, priorities and projects. In a nutshell, their outputs can help authorities not just do things right, but also, more importantly perhaps, do the right things. But a traditional panel also has its limitations, which a community-based ePanel seeks to address. This article discusses whether ePanels augments the traditional panel approach.
