Overview: Health care in the United States leads the world in technological sophistication. Yet it fails to provide access to care for many of its citizens, expends more resources than any other system in the world and achieves population health impacts far below those of many of Western nations. One of the major causes of this problem is administrative complexity of the system. It raises costs, frustrates patients and hampers care. Simplifying the health care system's administration could reduce annual health care costs by almost $300 billion.
