Overview: The paper highlights that the information technology challenges faced by telecommunications companies may be the most complex and urgent of any industry. In some companies these challenges are swallowing an unhealthy percentage of IT budgets and hindering the ability to achieve high performance. Both fixed-line and mobile telcos are confronted with difficult situations that drive the need for IT consolidation. The most prominent drivers include suppliers that no longer support applications and operation systems, existing applications that cannot support new products and services, process re-engineering, cross-border harmonization and enhanced Telecom Operations Map (eTOM) alignment, the growing issue of cross-border and global harmonization.
