Overview: Biopharmaceutical manufacturers likely would agree that, beyond planning for safe, consistent products, expanding biotherapeutic product availability is a rational humanitarian and public sector goal. Reducing costs and complexities associated with production will increase availability to patients in both industrialized and developing nations for a larger number of diseases. Efficient production is an obvious key to reducing costs and increasing availability. This study explores current technical advances in biopharmaceutical production that may lead to reductions in manufacturing cost and considers potential improvements that may lead to future production efficiencies.
