Overview: Most lasers of medical interest have purely cosmetic applications. The devices used for those treatments fit into a number of categories and no one laser fills all uses. A few lasers are used for medical procedures that are reimbursed by insurance. Topping that list is the pulsed dye lasers sold by several manufacturers, which can be used for treatment of vascular proliferate lesions in children (billed as the CPT 17106 series) or for treatment of warts (billed with destruction codes). Lasers are complicated machines that break and are very expensive to service, and so the service contract is a very important part of the purchase.
